Wine & Soul Pintas Character Douro Red 2015 Portugal Douro Rotwein. Sandra ist die ehemalige Önologin von Quinta vale donna Maria und Jorge der ehemalige Önologe von Dirk Niepoort. Dieses Spitzenteam zaubert nur das Beste in die Flasche.

The 2015 Pintas Character is a field blend (more than 30 different grapes but mostly Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Touriga Nacional) aged for 18 months in 50% new French oak. It comes in at 14% alcohol. It is a very different style than the regular Manoella this issue, but about as good and probably better (although, certainly, not quite as good a value). The real issue, apart from money, is what style you prefer. This is more solid in the mid-palate, very concentrated and ripe. It is also more powerful, sterner and more immediately impressive, although it lacks the elegance and freshness of the Manoella. Happily, the oak impact is also modest, the amount of oak slowly decreasing on this bottling. Not yet bottled when tasted, I sampled the final blend out of barrel and tank, and this is potentially the best Character yet. A second wine? A lot of wineries would be happy to call this their first wine. I've tended to refer to this as a "second wine," but that's not really true. It is not a selection of lesser grapes or barrels, just a different terroir. Sourced from old vines (40 years on average), there were 20,000 bottles produced.
